Have you ever wanted to learn how to work with glass? Create a beautiful dish and a Sun Catcher in the Basic Fused Glass class and you will be surprised at your hidden talents.
Fused Glass has been around since the Roman days. In simple terms, you hand cut the glass pieces and stack them on top of one another to make your design. From there it goes into a kiln and is heated up , in stages at a very slow rate, to 1450 degrees to fuse all the glasses pieces into one level piece. It is then cooled down at a very slow rate, until it reaches room temperature. The second time you put it in the kiln, it is placed on top of a bisque mold and as it heats up it softens, and drops into the mold underneath it, taking the shape of it and again cooled down slowly back to room temperature. It takes roughly 24 hours to make each piece, but you end up with a beautiful, functional piece of glassware to cherish forever.
